Facing embezzlement and tax evasion charges, ex-Yukos executive and chief lawyer Vasily Aleksanyan said that he was deliberately denied medical treatment for AIDS while in detention as punishment for not testifying against his bosses, Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev.
Aleksanyan maintains that all the charges filed against him are false and politically motivated. “This is simply cold-blooded killing. I never took part in those events, for which I’m incriminated,” he made a statement declaring his innocence and denouncing Russia’s judicial system ahead of the announcement of the court’s decision. ‘Everything that is happening is an abuse of justice. I am innocent. There was no crime — it was all invented,’ however, the court ruled against his treatment:
‘The defence’s conclusions on the need for hospital treatment do not correspond to reality,’ judge Irina Oreshkina said at the hearing for a former vice president of Yukos jailed for embezzlement regardless of the protest appeal of his lawyers to dismiss the invented charges and free him from the pretrial process for treatment.
‘The request for changing his mode of detention was rejected,’ judge said while according to Russian law, a person diagnosed with serious health problems should not be kept in pre-trial detention, which is exactly what is being done to Vasily Aleksanyan - thus, constituting principally immoral and primary illegal case in history of AIDS treatment being used as political coercive weapon for confession and to force false testimony against Yukos and Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Meanwhile, Aleksanyan commented on Khodorkovsky, the imprisoned former CEO of Yukos, who had staged a hunger strike as an act of solidarity. “I hold great respect towards Mikhail Borisovich, and I’m indebted and thankful for his support. I wouldn’t want him to suffer some kind of harm, or that he get sick or die – my sacrifice is enough. Because he has four children, and I have one,” Aleksanyan said. The Alexanyan case creates moral consensus among Russia intellectual opposition and Human Rights leaders as unified discontent with absolute abuse of powers as moral verdict judgement to illegitimacy of the Putin regime and it’s heir of the immoral governance system.
